Iowa Lakes Iowa has a great number of lakes. The largest lake being Red Rock Lake, to the southeast of Des Moines, Iowa. Rathbun Lake, to the south-southeast of Des Moines, is the states sec. largest lake. Iowa's crown jewels are the Iowa Great Lakes. Located in northwest Iowa, Spirit Lake, East and West Okoboji Lakes, Center Lake and the Gar Lakes make up but a few of the natural lakes in this region. They remind me of Lake of the Ozarks, in Missouri. Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council's web site has more information about these lakes along with some very useful boating safety pages. Also located in Iowa is the Iowa Sailing Club. This is one of the University of Iowa's oldest student organizations, started in 1965. It boasts a fleet of over 45 boats and complete boathouse facilities. |
