Saylorville Lake
Since the mid 1970's, Saylorville Lake has been Central Iowa's outdoor recreation playground. This beautiful 17 mile long lake on the Des Moines River is just 7 miles from Des Moines and easily accessible from Interstates 80 and 35. At the full flood control pool of Saylorville Lake is 54 miles long and covers 16,700 acres.
Outdoor recreation opportunities are available at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation areas, Big Creek State Park, and Jester Park.
Power boating and sailboating are two popular activities on the lake with boat ramps located conveniently around the lake. Boaters can also launch at the Saylorville Marina, a private concessionaire that provides boat storage, boat repair, fuel, bait and other supplies for the Saylorville user.
The Saylorville Visitor Center, located on the east end of Saylorville dam, features informative displays on Iowa history along with examples of the interesting flora and fauna native to the area.
