Perry Lake With nearly 160 miles of shoreline, Perry Lake offers some of the best sailing and boating in the Mid-West. There are nine parks around the lake, with over 650 campsites, 17 picnic shelters and 10 boat ramps. Over 600 sailboats from 16 feet to 40 feet in length make Perry Lake their home. There are 2 full service marinas, DJ's Rock Creek Marina and Port Perry Marina. There is also a private marina, Perry Yacht Club. Dock space is available at all three. Sailing regattas are conducted on weekends by various sailing clubs... with races in several classes from Cruising Sail Boats to Catamarans, which may be seen skimming across the water powered only by the Kansas breeze against their colorful sails. Hobie Fleet 149 sails out of Perry State Park every weekend and is host to seven Regattas each year. Sail Boarding is also very popular in the lake. Perry Lake is probably the second best sailing lake in the midwest (#1 Stockton Lake, Mo.). My boat was docked at DJ's Marina for many years. DJ's has the best marina I've seen. As far as wind, there is always a 200 mph breeze blowing across the lake (at least it seems like it). Makes for very good sailing. As a side note, about 20 years ago I had an old wooden "E" scow (1952). It was on Lake Perry that a friend water skied behind it! Very Fast ride! There is a daily fee of $2 for boat launching .
