The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began construction of Lake Texoma in Aug of 1939. With an average pool of 60,000 acres and a flood control pool of 140,000 acres, it's the largest lake in capacity in the Tulsa District and the twelfth largest in the United States. It leads all Corps lakes west of the Mississippi River in recreational attendance with 5.8 million visitors in 1997. Texoma ranks second overall in visitation nationwide.
It's power turbines can produce 70,000 Kilowatts of electricity. With provisions for an additional 130,000 Kilowatts.
This lake has an immense amount of acreage surrounding it's shores. Enough to support, 2 wildlife refuges, 2 state parks, 54 U.S Army Corps of Engineers - managed parks, 26 resorts, hundreds of campgrounds and numerous marinas.
Texoma Sailing Club is located at Grandpappy Point Marina. Cedar Mills Yacht Club is located at Cedar Mills Marina.
