Lake of the Ozarks Missouri's largest lake is a family vacationland in the heart of the state. This 58,000 acre lake offers sailing, boating, skiing, and swimming. Numerous marinas are scattered around the lake. The largest state park in Missouri, Lake of the Ozarks State Park, nestled in Osage River Hills, the park contains many features typical of the Ozark region: from rugged heavily wooded areas to beautiful and delicate cave formations. Ha Ha Tonka State Park with its castle remains, is another interesting park in the region. There are over 200 resorts around the lakes, with 1,375 miles of wooded shoreline.
Although there are some sailboats on Lake of the Ozarks, (I only saw 1sailboat, on a major holiday weekend) the throttle jockies (Motorboats, Bassboats, Skiboats, Cigaretteboats and people with more horsepower than brains) rule this lake. It's about 1000 to 1 ratio between Powerboats and Sailboats. If you visit this lake remember, your sailboat only goes 5 to 15 knots, these 90 mph speedboats legaly may not have the right of way, but they don't know it..
