Stockton Lake This 25,000 acre lake, surrounded by rolling forested hills, is located at the western edge of Missouri. The U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers began construction in Oct. 1963. Normal pool was reached in Dec. 1971. If you are a sail boater this is the place to be. Stockton Lake is the Best sailing lake in the midwest. There are powerboats on the lake, but they keep to themselves. They also know the rules of the road. Holiday weekends can be busy. Going down in the middle of the week is very nice. You will just
about have the whole lake to yourself. There are three large marinas on the lake, Orleans Trail Marina and Resort, Mutton Creek Marina and Campgrounds and Stockton State Park Marina. All are full service marinas and provide fishing equipment, boat rental, fuel, stores, potable water, and pump-out facilities. Presently my sailboat is docked at Orleans Trail Marina. This is also the lake where I learned to respect "THOR", the god of Lightning. During a thunderstorm, the top 3" of the mast suddenly disappeared. Along with all the masthead equipment.
